How to impress the impossible?
So I gave it a whirl, I tried to be the impressive interactive guru that I know I can be, but after a long month of not really getting that one big shot the company I was with and I have decided to part ways.
Am I disappointed, Yes! Am I going to let it get me down, HECK NO!
With 4 more interviews already on the horizon I feel this little bleep in my career has not set me back but has given me a better insight on how to approach different professional and some not so professional situations. I am not going to comment on the situation in too much detail as the company is a great company and it was only a few choice individuals whom I didn’t mesh well with.
However I will say this, impress the heck out of everyone you encounter and if you run in contact with an individual who won’t give you a chance because of a prior bad experience then its probably not a good fit for you. Unfortunately when you are trying to impress someone who seems impossible to impress its probably because they are and they don’t know what they are looking for in a creative/technical professional. Lets be honest this industry is full of people who still don’t know the difference between a Programmer, A front end developer, and a web designer. And they also don’t seem to get when they need to just go for it and spend the extra money to hire the right person.
So for those prospective employers, I am not a programmer. I am however a fantastic front end developer and interactive designer. I hand code all my own HTML and CSS, create and program simple PHP forms, integrate Javascript, Jquery and Ajax well, and to top it off my eye for design is out of this world. ( and i don’t say this lightly, but its taken me a long time to perfect my skills.) This being said when you meet me and fall in love with my work ethic and attitude make sure you give me the fair chance I deserve. Don’t compare me to the guru who worked for your company for a million years and can do my job in his sleep, and don’t compare me to the person who followed in his footsteps and failed miserably. I am neither one of those people, I am me. Will I become your next guru, absolutely. Will it happen overnight, no. Will we hit snags along the path to guru-ism, another absolutely. Will we both get frustrated, most definitely. Will I overcome those problems and frustrations so they don’t repeat themselves, 100% yes!
